Local Union 342

In addition to improving the living strandards and working conditions of workers in the pipe trades industry, Local Union 342 assists community members through a variety of charitable programs.

Take The Field With The A's
Ever wonder what it’d be like to be a major league ballplayer? Last season selected little leaguers had a chance to take the field right along side a major league ballplayer. This program, sponsored by Plumbers, Steamfitters, Refrigeration Local Union #342, gave eight lucky children the unique opportunity to accompany A’s position players as they took the field at selected home games. Once in position, these little league players received an autographed ball from the A’s player with whom he or she accompanied into position. The signed ball is something to cherish, and the memory will last a lifetime.

Player Card Giveaway
Did you receive you’re A’s Player Card set? Last year, on May 2, 1999, Local Union #342 sponsored this giveaway. The twenty-player card sets were distributed to the first 15,000 fans in attendance. With all the great players (and loyal fans) the giveaway was a hit!

A's Baseball Clinic

Local Union 342 sponsored two free baseball clinics for Bay Area boys and girls. The clinics took place prior to the games on May 29, and September 4, 1999. The children were selected from little leagues, the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, and organizations for underprivileged children. It was a rare opportunity for these children to play baseball on a major league baseball diamond, and each practiced four different baseball skills: pitching, batting, fielding, and base running. The staff that coaches the pros gave these hard-working amateurs pointers to improve their own game. To commemorate the event, each participant received four plaza level game tickets for the day of the event, and an official A’s Baseball Clinic T-shirt.

Mother Wright's

United Association Local Union 342 sponsored a turkey giveaway for families in need throughout the Oakland area. Union members together with A’s players and managers gave away over 1,000 turkeys at the event.

Camp Okizu
A camp that can help build self-esteem is a worthy investment. That’s why Local Union #342 partnered with the A’s last season to sponsor Camp Okizu. This Bay Area camp offers children with cancer, and their siblings, the chance to learn about independence, and fosters their self-esteem. For every home run the A’s hit, Local Union #342 pledged $100 and every grand slam was worth $300. In a pre-game ceremony Local Union $342 gave Camp Okizu $27,000.
