Local Union 342 plumbers specialize in installing and maintaining systems used for potable (drinking) water, sewage, and drainage piping. Our plumbers install and repair pipes, fittings, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment used for water distribution, waste water disposal, and venting in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.
Local Union 342 requires an apprentice to serve a five-year apprenticeship. During this period, the apprentice is required to attend classes to learn the many facets of the plumbing industry. In addition, they are required to learn the provisions of regulations like the Uniform Plumbing Code; after which a formal test is administered. Also, the apprentice gains valuable job skills through on-the-job training experience under the supervision of a journeyman plumber. It is only after the required on-the-job and classroom training hours are met that an apprentice graduates to journeyman plumber. This ensures that Local Union 342 will provide the end users with the most highly trained, safe, and efficient plumbers. And, like other Local Union 342 craft workers, these journeymen plumbers continue to train and pursue necessary certifications for specialized areas such as medical gas, industrial rigging, backflow prevention, auto cad and UA/MCA Foreman training. Equally important is that our qualified plumbers, by virtue of their vast knowledge of the trade and superior training, protect the health of the public.
