Looking for a career in the piping industry?

Representing qualified journeymen and apprentices of the plumbing, pipefitting, and HVACR service industry for more than a century.

Welcome to Skilled & Trained Safe Dedicated

Steamfitters Local 342 was chartered into the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices in the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada in 1914.

Welcome to UA Local 342

Steamfitters Local 342 was chartered into the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices in the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada in 1914. It began with twenty-one charter members who sought a shorter work-day, wage increases, and better working conditions. Those original members endured adverse conditions that are well documented in the history of the American Labor Movement.

What started as a small band of steamfitters grew to encompass workers in the welding, pipeline, refrigeration, and plumbing trades. The acquisition of these skilled trades came by way of mergers with other UA locals, including Plumbers Local 444 in 1994, and helped to establish one of the strongest examples of a combination local. We are proud of our humble beginnings and strive to maintain the highest standard of excellence.

A Message from Business Manager Che' Timmons

Updated April 17, 2020

Brother and Sisters,

The UA has put out a recommendation and guidelines for covering the fixed monthly counter dues which will help members affected by COVID-19. The UA recommends that the Local Union covers the fixed monthly counter dues for any members that have their hours affected due to COVID-19, resulting in unemployment. I applaud the General President and the UA for their foresight in assisting the Local Unions and their members during this crisis.

I, too, have been looking at this as the next step in assisting our Members during this time. My view of affected members is broader because I believe each and every one of us, and our households, are affected in one way or another. Whether it’s you or your spouse being unemployed, the need to purchase additional food and supplies to limit the amount trips to the store, as well as additional expenses we aren’t accustomed to, this situation has made a large impact on our lives in a multitude of ways.

With that, I have decided, with unanimous approval from your Executive Board, to credit one month of fixed monthly counter dues to every UA Local 342 Member. This will start for the month of April and will be evaluated on a month-to-month basis set to continue until the shelter in place order is lifted. If your dues are paid up for future months or if you are owing any previous months, then the credit will be applied for the next month owed. It is my belief that we all have enough to worry about and this will take one thing off our plates as we navigate this situation. No UA Local 342 Member should have to worry about his membership being affected by this crisis.

Fraternally yours,
Che Timmons
Business Manager
